Warrior Nun boss confirms "return" after axingNetflix

Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry has confirmed that the show will return, following its cancellation by Netflix.

The fantasy drama was axed by the streaming service last year after its second season, but Barry took to Twitter to announce that the show had been given a new lease of life following a determined fan campaign.

"Today I'm happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts – #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank you!! #SaveWarriorNun #WarriorNunSaved," he wrote.

Barry didn't confirm which network had saved the show, or if the original cast would return for new episodes of Warrior Nun.

The original series followed Ava Silva (Alba Baptista) as she joined the Order of the Cruciform Sword, with their task being to fight demons and the "powerful forces representing both heaven and hell". The series also starred Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young and Tristán Ulloa.

Following news that Netflix hadn't renewed Warrior Nun, its fans came together to fund billboards, sign petitions and campaign on social media for the programme to be saved.

When the show was axed last year, Barry wrote: "I've just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun — my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team.

"It was a privilege to be a part of this."

Baptista, who made her English-language debut on the show, said of the cancellation at the time: "Working on Warrior Nun was a very special chapter of my life. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving everything they had.

"Thank you to the fans that loved and supported us. I see you and I love you. It was all for you. I’m forever grateful."
