WATCH: Firefighters tackle blaze as West Cornwall building destroyed

Firefighters are at the scene of a building fire in West Cornwall this afternoon (Thursday).

The building in Perranuthnoe - where houses can sell for up to £1 million - is reported to have been ‘destroyed’ by the fire, which is believed to have started at around 3.30pm.

Firefighters are currently at the scene tackling the flames.

Pictures and video sent to the Packet by Caleb Giddens show the building completely burnt to the ground, with only a chimney breast remaining.

However, the exact cause of the fire is not yet known.

However, police have now revealed they are treating the fire as arson and are asking people to come forward with any relevant information.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a property in Perranuthnoe.

"Officers were called by the fire service just before 5.30pm on Thursday 27 June following the fire within a chalet in Boat Cove Lane.

"The building was destroyed by fire.

"Police are treating the incident as arson and appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity around the building at the time of the incident to contact them.
