Hull FC youngster Denive Balmforth is currently honing his craft in the Championship, but one thing he clearly doesn't need to work on is his pace. The teenager is earning essential first-team experience up in Newcastle, playing regularly in the second tier for the club's dual-reg partners.

Balmforth has been an ever-present for Chris Thorman's Thunder in the Championship and was in action once again over the weekend as they took on Widnes Vikings, who are coached by the Black and Whites' Challenge Cup winning coach, John Kear.

And while it was the Vikings who won the match, prevailing 24-16, Balmforth caught the eye after impressively chasing down one of the fastest players in the game. The clip, which was posted on the Vikings' Twitter account, shows former Hull KR man Kieran Dixon nail an intercept on his own line and gallop away for a spectacular score.

Dixon, who has long been regarded as one of the sport's fastest players, appears destined to go the length untroubled, but Balmforth had other ideas. Despite having a fair amount of ground to cover, the hooker amazingly hunts down the flier with ease and has practically caught up to him by the time he reaches halfway.

Unfortunately for Balmforth, his Newcastle teammates weren't quite as quick and while he did manage to slow Dixon down, he was able to launch a pass that allowed Joe Lyons to stroll home by the posts. Regardless, the clip showed off Balmforth's impressive pace as he awaits his big breakthrough at the MKM Stadium.

He scored a try on debut last year, crossing within minutes of coming on against Toulouse Olympique. While he currently finds himself behind Danny Houghton, Brad Dwyer and Joe Lovodua in the pecking order, he is regarded highly at the club and is expected to eventually emerge as a senior player. For now, he is continuing to gain senior experience in the Championship, a notoriously tough training ground for young players.
