All the ways Big Brother could return to screens

From Digital Spy

What is happening with Big Brother?

Channel 5 confirmed the news that every fan was dreading last week, stating that Big Brother's 2018 civilian version would be its last.

With fans taking to social media to react to the news, question marks were instantly thrown over the future of the show. The rumour mill is going wild with theories, but we're here to cut through all the BS.

Here's everything we have heard, and how likely it really is.

Is Big Brother going to ITV?

This is the most recent rumour to have started doing the rounds. According to reports, ITV has entered into a 'bidding war' for production company Endemol Shine.

Even if this is the case and ITV does end up acquiring the media company – which also creates the likes of Black Mirror, MasterChef and Peaky Blinders – it's worth noting that this wouldn't necessarily guarantee that the show would air on the channel. Black Mirror is a C4/Netflix show, while Peaky Blinders and MasterChef are BBC, for example.

Will Big Brother go back to Channel 4?

Many have been wondering whether Channel 4, the original home of the reality show, might want to snap Big Brother back up.

Alas, this idea seems to have been vetoed completely for now.

In a tweet posted to the @4Viewers (a "source of info" for all programmes relating to the channel) account, bosses stated that there are "no intentions" for Channel 4 to air Big Brother again.

Will Big Brother be on Sky?

Again, no.

One eager BB fan asked the Sky Help Team whether there were plans for this particular move, and it was shut down with one simple tweet (although, by the looks of things, the customer service advisor seemed quite sad about it).

Is this the last series of Big Brother ever?

The future of the show remains uncertain.

Endemol Shine's statement did leave the door open for the format to return on another platform, and hosts Emma Willis and Rylan Clark-Neal have also hinted that this is what they're hoping for.

Speaking ahead of the final Channel 5 launch show on Friday (September 14), Emma told fans: "I feel like I've been through this process before... Well, I have been through this process before because I worked on the last year on Channel 4. And we buried it, genuinely! We had a grave for it and everything... And then the next thing we know is 'Oh wow, it's coming back!'

"So the news was a shock, if I'm honest, but I still hold out hope that somebody out there loves it as much as we all do still and will give it a home in the future..."

Here's hoping.
