Britain is set to sizzle in warm temperatures as the mercury will go past 20C. In the coming days, the current rain and windy weather will be forgotten as the sun will finally make an appearance.

The Mirror reports that in a few days, the temperatures will increase to 24C, according to weather maps. Many parts of the country from Manchester, Fort William, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh will enjoy the sunshine with temperatures between 18-20C during that period.

For the forecast between May 2 to 11, the Met Office said: "In the first part of this period, many areas of the UK are expected to see periods of rain or showers. Some of these showers will be heavy and thundery, with the greatest chance of thunderstorms in the southeast.

"Along with this will be a fair amount of low cloud in the east at times, with spells of coastal fog, but also temperatures generally above average for the time of year. Overall, northwestern parts of the UK are likely to be driest and sunniest."

The future forecast is a far cry from today's expected cold conditions where many parts are unlikely to reach higher than 11C. Today is expected to have heavy rain moving north across many eastern and central parts but will be drier and brighter in the west with sunny spells and scattered showers.

For Coventry, today will be an unsettled start with heavy and persistent rain. It will gradually turn brighter and drier in into the afternoon with the breeze at times, with a maximum temperature of 13C. Tonight will have clear spells into the night, with a minimum temperature of 4C.

Here is the Met Office outlook for Coventry over the next few days:

Monday:

Rather cloudy to start with showery rain in the west, drier further east with sunnier spells. Milder than of late but with stronger southerly winds. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Often changeable through the week with showers, merging to longer spells of rain and mixed with sunnier intervals in between. Warmer than of late and breezy at times.
