All medical experts agree that staring into the sun is a really, really bad idea, with the potential for permanent damage to the back of your eye.

But Australian wellness guru and Netflix chef Pete Evans begs to disagree, saying that he looks at the sun as a form of ‘medicine’.

In an Instagram post to his followers he said, ‘Everyday I love to immerse myself in an experience within the cleansing ocean water as well as a brief gaze into the radiant light of the early rising or late setting Sun.

‘These simple, yet powerful practices have got to be two of the best forms of free medicine on the planet for body, mind and spirit. #sungazing”

Wellness types claim that sungazing has mysterious healing powers for the body and spirit.

Actual medical doctors say that it can cause solar retinopathy, pterygium, cataracts, and blindness.

The NHS says, ‘Always avoid looking directly at the sun, including during an eclipse. It can cause permanent damage to the back of your eye.’
