The head coach and a leading player of a Welsh rugby club got engaged on the Principality Stadium pitch in the aftermath of a cup final.

Clwb Rygby Cymru Caerdydd Women's captain Meleri Daniel proposed to her head coach Nia Jones in the aftermath of their 34-21 victory over Old Penarthians in the Women's National Bowl Final. The lovely moment was caught live on S4C's live stream as Jones accepted the proposal with the rest of the team celebrating their engagement.

"No, I was not at all," Jones told S4C when asked if she was expecting the proposal. "We've been with each other for some time but I was not expecting that at all."

She was then asked how proud she was of her fianceé. "Massively, and to get a try here at the Principality Stadium it's brilliant," she said.

"There were a couple of injury niggles with us coming into the game but the fact she's worked hard to come back and play and the way she's lead the team through it. I'm so proud."

Daniel was also ecstatic with the engagement and described her nerves leading up to the game.

"That definitely!," said Daniel when asked what made her more nervous, the game itself or her planned proposal. "It gave me a few nerves about the day.

"A few of the girls knew and I planned it after the semi-final. If we won that's what I was going to do and we've won so happy days."

The moment was greeted by hugs and cheers from the rest of the squad.
