A new fast-food restaurant in the city centre finalising plans to move into the High Street and has applied for permission to give the premises a makeover.

The chain has applied for “minor external alterations to the ground floor frontages to accommodate the new restaurant use”.

The plans include the installation of a new aluminium fascia board over the existing shopfront, the installation of two proposed window blinds to the existing windows at the first-floor level and finishing the shopfront glazing and entrance doors.

A planning statement reads: “Whilst the external works to the frontages are limited in their nature, they will contribute to a refreshed and revitalised exterior of the ground floor exteriors which will positively enhance the character of the streetscene and wider conservation area.

“It is there considered that the application proposals successfully comply with the previously identified national and local planning policies and should be considered acceptable on this basis.”

The restaurant previously had plans refused to put up a number of signs of their iconic image of the pigtailed, smiling girl, after objections calling the bold signs “inappropriate”.

Planning bosses at Colchester Council will have the final say.
