Leicester City and Nottingham Forest favourite Wes Morgan once described Steve Cooper as the “greatest guy ever” as he raved about his feats at the City Ground.

Cooper has taken charge at the King Power Stadium six months after exiting Forest, having impressively led them from the bottom of the Championship to promotion to the Premier League and then survival in the top flight. His immediate task will be to repeat that survival achievement with the Foxes, who are preparing for life back in the Premier League after winning promotion last season under former boss Enzo Maresca.

Morgan, who left Forest to join Leicester back in 2012 and went on to captain the Foxes to the Premier League title in 2016, was full of praise for Cooper when he was still in charge of Forest. Speaking about him last November, shortly before he departed the City Ground, he said: “I’ve been to a few Forest games, spoke to Steve Cooper, greatest guy ever.

“Done a great job for Forest getting them out of the Championship, from the position they were in, into the Premier League and survive that first season, this season and hopefully push on a little bit.”
