Wetherspoons has introduced a number of new dishes to its menu , including one that's set to compete with other chains such as Wagamamas.

Alongside a ramen vegetarian or chicken noodle bowl, it has introduced a spicy 12 inch shawarma chicken wrap and three new breakfast items, including American-style pancakes. There are also two new additions to its dessert menu, an option for smaller 10 inch wraps and new drinks including non-alcoholic varieties.

Reporter Anita Merritt, decided to visit Wetherspoons, to try out the new menu, after admitting she was already a big fan. The reasons being because it's affordable, there are a lot of options and the food usually arrives super quick.

Here is what Anita, thought of Wetherspoons new menu which is set to rival Wagamamas.

She said: "I don't mind admitting that I was shocked, pleasantly so.

First to grace our table were two stylish large black solid serving bowls, complete with matching chunky black spoons. The first ramen noodle bowl was brimming with noodles, bean sprouts, shitake mushroom, spring onion, pak choi, bamboo shoots, red onion, sliced chillies and coriander, all immersed in a light broth, topped off with a poached egg.

The portion size was massive, so much so that I had no chance of finishing it, but what I did manage to eat was surprisingly tasty. It had a kick to it, but not too overpowering, and a garnish of red chillies allowed those who can handle more spice to add an extra punch.

The broth wasn't overly salty and the noodles, albeit slightly overcooked, were soft and very satisfying. The poached egg seemed more like a softly boiled egg, perhaps due to its time in the hot broth. For the price of £8.99 with a soft drink or £10.52 with an alcoholic beverage, plus an additional 93p for the egg, I believe it's a bargain.

The second ramen noodle bowl featured the meatier version of the dish, boasting a generous portion of chargrilled sliced chicken that was soft and tender, costing just an extra £1.15. Following this was the 12 inch shawarma chicken wrap, priced at £6.27 with a soft drink and £7.80 with an alcoholic beverage.

A smaller 10 inch wrap is also available at a lower cost of £4.69 with a soft drink and £6.22 with an alcoholic beverage. The wrap was packed with spiced pulled chicken thigh, Middle Eastern spices, Naga chilli, garlic and herb sauces, tomato, onion, rocket and fresh mint, served alongside chips.

It certainly packed a spicy punch, so it might not be for those who shy away from heat. The wrap was bursting with flavour and had ample chicken to make it a hearty, satisfying meal. For the vegetarians out there, a new addition is the chilli bean non-carne featuring red peppers, red kidney and black turtle beans in a smoky chipotle sauce, served with rice and tortilla chips. This dish comes in at £8.91 with a soft drink and £10.44 with an alcoholic beverage.

Despite the rice being a bit of a let down, the non-carne itself was incredibly delicious with a wonderfully smoked flavour, proving that vegetarian food can be far from bland or boring.

We also sampled the small 10 inch brunch wrap filled with a fried egg, bacon, Lincolnshire sausage and cheddar cheese. Without any drink, this wrap costs just £3.66. Be aware that it's quite petite and very basic but, considering the price, I don't think you can complain.

Our dining experience was rounded off by trying its two new desserts; the salted caramel sticky toffee pudding, which you can choose to have with ice cream or custard for £4.99, and the millionaires shortbread accompanied by vanilla ice cream, shortbread biscuit, Belgian chocolate sauce and toffee sauce, priced at £2.17. I've never sampled a dessert at Wetherspoon before and I wasn't anticipating much, particularly as I'm not one for sweet treats, but the sticky toffee pudding with custard was a revelation.

It was so light and fluffy that I ended up devouring the whole thing, and it came with a generous dollop of custard. Regardless of whether you're a Spoons aficionado or not, it's evident that they're striving to elevate their offerings with these new menu additions, which are sure to be a hit.
