Efforts are continuing to bring a Five Guys drive thru restaurant to Kingswood following the approval of plans last year.

A new application has since been lodged with Hull City Council for canopies which will cover the drive thru area of the restaurant, planned north of the Hollywood Bowl, off Gibraltar Way. These proposals state the two canopies would protect both customers and staff who take orders in person rather than through an automated screen or speaker system from the weather.

The latest update comes after proposals for the drive thru at Kingswood Leisure Park, Hull's first Five Guys, were lodged in June and approved in October. It is set to join the roughly 1,700 outlets the chain has throughout the world, the nearest of which is currently in York.

Five Guys will join other fast food and restaurant chains in Kingswood including Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, Dunkin', Domino's, Nando's, Beleza Rodizio, Tribal Bar & Grill, Piccolo by Piccolino, Wendy's, McDonald's, Costa, Greggs, Subway and the Beefeater pub. As many as 40 new jobs could be created.

Plans for the canopy stated developers were also awaiting the approval of pre-commencement conditions. The restaurant is set to cover a space of 257.7sqm when built, along with 12.4sqm for bins, plants, two service hatches and a drive-thru lane.

There would also be 15 on-site parking spaces. Plans for the restaurant approved in October stated: "Five Guys is an American restaurant chain founded in 1986.

"Its first UK restaurant opened in Covent Garden in 2013, it now operates over 1,700 restaurants worldwide. As with other restaurants recently provided at Kingswood Leisure Park, the proposed restaurant seeks to serve the built up residential areas located to the north of the city centre."

Five Guys serves burgers, "beef dogs" and sandwiches including BLT and grilled cheese, which included unlimited free toppings. Custom-made milkshakes are also on offer. The plans follow the opening of American burger restaurant Wendy's in Kingswood in December.

Plans have also been lodged for a Wendy's restaurant in Jameson Street in the city centre. The opening date for the Five Guys drive thru remains unknown. Five Guys has been contacted for further comment.
