Aston Villa's president of football operations Monchi was present at Barcelona's La Liga clash against Valencia on Monday night.

The Catalan giants won the game 4-2 despite trailing at half-time as Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was sent off in first half added time.

After the match, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that Monchi said the reason for his visit to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys 'had nothing to do with any matter to be discussed at the moment'.

The report added that there was no scheduled appointment between Monchi and Barcelona as he only gained accreditation to watch the match. However, his presence has, of course, sparked speculation leading up to the summer transfer window.

In recent days, Villa have been credited with an interest in Jules Kounde, a player Monchi signed at Sevilla. Meanwhile, Clement Lenglet is currently on loan at Villa from Barca and his future will have to be resolved this summer.

Villa are currently locked in a battle with Tottenham for a top four finish. Champions League qualification could impact what business the club are able to complete this summer.
