Windsurfer knocked into water by cheeky dolphins while catching waves in Scots bay

The hilarious moment a windsurfer was sent tumbling into the water by a pod of playful dolphins has been captured on video. A boat tour operator caught the "golden shot" at Aberdeen Harbour last April after spotting the watersports enthusiast.

Ricky Greenhowe had been taking a group of customers around the bay when he started filming a windsurfer nearby. The skipper, who runs Aberdeen Harbour Tours, thought nothing of his footage until he got back home.

Afterr reviewing the video, he realised that two cheeky dolphins had decided to join in with the windsurfer and knocked him off his board. Fifty-year-old Ricky, who has been running tours for seven years, admitted it was the first time he had caught anything like this on camera.

In the footage, the windsurfer can be seen trying to naviagte through the choppy North Sea waters before suddenly coming off his board. But it is only upon closer inspection of the clip that a dolphin can be seen leaping from the waves and sending the surfer flying into the water.

Speaking to the Record last year, Ricky said: "I just saw the surfer out enjoying himself and I thought I'd take a video. It wasn't until I looked back that I noticed the dolphin had knocked him off and I thought 'wow'.

"You hear all these guys talk about the 'golden shot', It's not often you get something on the camera. If you look closely you see the dolphin coming out the water as he comes flying off.

"You can see them going off and chasing him again after it. There were about 20-25 of them in the area at the time."

Although it is the first time he has ever captured such an incident, Ricky revealed he has witnessed similar situations before during his career as a tour operator. He said he once saw a pod "knock children off their paddle boards".

He added: "I see the dolphins get up to nonsense all the time. Everyone is oblivious to what's going on, I don't think the windsurfer even noticed it was the dolphins.

"Aberdeen is one of the best places to get up and close to the dolphins They are always up to something they shouldn't be, we see them playing alongside our boat.

"They will try and throw salmon and seaweed over the boat and they will jump about and try and soak people, it's catching them on camera that's the fun part. They are only above the water for a split second."
