Winter Love Island: ITV bosses planning new version of hit show after viewing figures success

Due to the success of this year’s series, Love Island bosses are reportedly planning a winter offering set in South Africa.

According to The Sun, the show will follow a similar format to our well-known summer cult classic rather than follow in the footsteps of doomed Survival of the Fittest, ITV's last attempt at translating Love Island into a show for winter audiences.

It pitted men and women against each other using various challenges, but didn’t quite catch the public’s imagination as expected and was not renewed for a second season.

The show is expected to be filmed in a villa in December, giving viewers something to warm themselves up with this winter.

According to The Sun’s source, casting decisions have not been made as of yet but “ITV studios and crew are definitely gearing up for it”.

ITV has been contacted for comment regarding this development, and this story will be updated with any further information.

Meanwhile, friends and family of ex-contestant Joe Garratt – who was voted off Love Island last night – have spoken out about criticisms of his behaviour on the show, calling them “unfair and non-representative of Joe’s true character”.

A US version of Love Island is also coming to US network CBS in July.
