Woman, 47, Gives Birth One Hour After Learning She’s Pregnant

A 47-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl, just an hour after learning she was pregnant.

Judy Brown went to hospital in Beverly, Massachusetts on Wednesday, complaining of severe abdominal pain and believing she might be suffering from gallstones.

But after an examination, doctors told Judy that she was in fact, pregnant, and due to give birth imminently.

Just an hour later, she gave birth to a heathy baby girl, Carolyn Rose, who weighed in at 8lbs 2 oz.

Recalling the moment she was told about the pregnancy, Judy told Inside Edition: “The doctor said ‘Well it’s good news. You don’t have any blockages or anything. You’re pregnant. and you’re going to have her now’.”

Her husband Jason said the couple had no idea Judy was carrying a baby despite his wife’s stomach feeling a little “weird” over the past few months.

“When I felt her stomach I thought ‘this does’t feel like gaining weight’. When you gain weight it usually feels like flab and soft,” he said. “And this was hard. But we didn’t think anything of it.”

And despite experiencing some symptoms, it never occurred to Judy that she could be pregnant - Carolyn is the couple’s first child.

Instead she put her weight gain down to the menopause.

“After being married for 22 years, it wasn’t really coming up being pregnant,” she said. “It was not really there in my mind.”

Following the birth, Judy had to borrow a bassinet and a car seat just to leave the hospital.

Dr. Kimberly Gecsi, an obstetrician and gynecologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, said it was rare but plausible for women not to realise they are pregnant.

“People don’t know sometimes or they’re in denial about it and denial can be pretty strong,” she said.
