Woman in 80s fighting for life after crash with motorbike on Putney High street as rider in hospital

A woman in her 80s is fighting for her life in hospital after a crash between a motorbike and a pedestrian in South London on Thursday night (May 9). The Metropolitan Police have said they were called shortly before 5pm to reports of the collision, which had happened on Putney High Street.

The woman was rushed to a major trauma centre, the London Ambulance Service have said. She remains in a life-threatening condition.

The rider of the motorcycle was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made, the police confirm.

A cordon was put in place following the accident on Putney High Street, between Felsham Road and Lacy Road. Officers are continuing their enquiries.

The full statement from the Metropolitan Police says: "Police were called at 4.51pm to a collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian in Putney High Street. The pedestrian, a woman in her 80s, was taken to hospital.

"She remains there in a life-threatening condition. Police are working to inform next of kin.

"The rider of the motorcycle was treated for non life-threatening injuries. There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing."

And a spokesperson for the London Ambulance said: "We were called at 4.49pm on Thursday May 9 to reports of a road traffic collision in Putney High Street. We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.

“We treated two patients at the scene and took a woman to a London Major Trauma centre.”
