Woman, 81, suffers life-threatening injuries after being hit by car at East Lancs Road junction

An elderly woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in Lowton.

The 81-year-old was walking down the East Lancashire Road (A580) yesterday evening (May 13) when the car turned right onto Church Lane and knocked her down. She was rushed to hospital from the scene.

She remains there for treatment, police said. The driver of the car remained on the scene to assist the emergency services.

Officers at Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) now want to speak to any witnesses of the crash. They also want to speak to anyone who has dash cam or mobile phone footage from the time of the incident - which happened at around 10.30pm last night.
