A woman crashed her car outside a primary school just as pupils were about to leave for the day.

Emergency services were called to Score Lane in Childwall just before 3pm today, July 3. The crash happened outside Rudston Primary School on Rudston Road.

The woman reportedly mounted the kerb and hit the school sign next to the gate where pupils come out of school on Score Lane.

Merseyside Police said a woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. There were no reported injuries, police said.

Kieron Coogan, 64, whose grandchildren attend the school, said he saw the aftermath of the crash after returning from the Co-op. Kieron told the ECHO: "It was just past 3 o'clock and the school let out at quarter past three.

"If it had been another quarter of an hour it would have been total devastation. There would have been children coming out [of school]. The woman was still behind the wheel but she seemed conscious".
