Woman and children caught shoplifting in Exeter

Police officers were called to an incident where a woman and children were reported to be shoplifting in Exeter city centre. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were called around 1.40pm this afternoon (Tuesday, May 21) to Exeter High Street following reports of a woman and three small children shoplifting from a store.

An eyewitness reported seeing a number of police officers in the area. They said: "Coppers also talking to people outside Guildhall. Not sure what's happened. They added: "Police talking to people at Comptoir. A woman was upset, coppers are now sat with kids."

Police attended the scene and spoke to the woman involved. All items that had been taken were returned, a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police added: "Police were called at around 1.40pm on Tuesday 21 May to reports of a woman with three small children shoplifting from a store on Exeter High Street.

"Officers attended the scene and spoke to the woman. The incident was dealt with by community resolution and the woman returned all of the items."
