Woman cut free from vehicle with serious injuries after two-car crash in Handsworth

A woman was rushed to hospital with potentially serious injuries after being cut free from a vehicle following a two-car crash. The collision happened at the junction of Hamstead Road and Holly Road in Handsworth at around 11am today, April 30.

Paramedics rushed to the scene in Hamstead Road which was sealed off by police. The woman, who had been driving one of the cars, was cut free from the vehicle by firefighters.

Paramedics treated her for potentially serious injuries before transporting her on blue lights to Sandwell District Hospital. Hamstead Road, near Gibson Road, remains shut in both directions at time of publication.

Police officers were pictured still at the scene at around 3.30pm today. The police cordon stretched for around 25 metres.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of Hamstead Road and Holly Road in Handsworth at 11.05am. An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews were informed two cars had been involved in a collision.

"The driver of one of the cars, a woman, was assisted out of the vehicle with the help of fire colleagues before being treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries. She was conveyed to Sandwell District Hospital."
