A woman has died after being hit by a double-decker bus in east London.

The victim, aged in her 60s, was fatally injured in the collision on the High Street, in Stratford, on Wednesday.

Police and paramedics scrambled to the scene at around 1.30pm today.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pictures circulated online showed a double-decker bus and several police cars at the scene.

A cordon remains in place, police said.

Scotland Yard said in a statement: "Police were called at approximately 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 20 to reports of a collision involving a bus and a female pedestrian in High Street, E15.

"Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended.

"The pedestrian, a woman believed aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A cordon remains in place at the scene.

"Enquiries into the circumstances continue."
