Woman dies after mobility scooter hit by car in Glasgow crash

A woman has died in hospital two days after a car hit her mobility scooter.

Emergency services were called to Main Street in Baillieston, Glasgow, after reports of a crash at around 2pm on Friday, June 28.

A 58-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Police Scotland confirmed the woman died from her injuries on Sunday. Her family has asked for privacy.

The driver of the car, a 77-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Officers locked down the road for five hours after the tragic incident. An image from the scene showed police blocking off the road with two ambulances parked in between them.

Another showed tape cordoning off the road beside a nearby Lidl supermarket. Cops are continuing to appeal for information.

Road Policing Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has died at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who has not already spoken to officers and can help with our investigation is asked to get in touch. If you can help please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1895 of Friday, June 28, 2024.”
