Woman taken to hospital after crash near Switch Island

A woman was taken to hospital after a crash near Switch Island.

Emergency services were called to the A59 northbound, near Aintree, at around 6.30am on Wednesday, May 1. It followed a crash involving two cars, with one overturning and landing on its roof, near the end of the M57.

Images of the scene showed heavy damage to two of the cars. One photo, seen by the ECHO, showed a dark-coloured car on its roof. A silver car could also be seen on the embankment and significant damage to railings.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were all in attendance and a road closure was in place between the M57 and Brooms Cross Road.

A woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The crash caused traffic chaos in the area, with people reporting long delays and queues. The scene has since cleared and traffic has returned to normal, according to traffic management system Inrix.
