A Newent woman is celebrating her dog walking business reaching a ten year milestone, by walking packs of dogs for ten hours and raising money for charity. She says the health and welfare of animals has always been important and she would like to do something ''to make their innocent lives better'.

Happy Paws dog walking service owner, Brittanie Boughton, 35, from Newent, is walking ten hours straight on Saturday (June 15), and was due to start at 8am. She is raising money for Teckels Animal Sanctuary as she knows how hard the team at the centre work to help animals who are taken into rescue there.

Brittanie said: "I am going to be walking for ten hours raising money for Teckels to mark my business Happy Paws turning ten-years-old. Teckels do a lot of work with rescue dogs who have difficult behaviours and give them a break to be able to find their forever home.

"The work they do with with dogs with special needs is really important as opposed to a dog who had a good home from day one. I have always loved animals since I was young, and I would like to raise money to support animals in need.."

Brittanie will be waling a pack of six dogs for three hours and 20 minutes in a dog relay. She will be joined by friends with their dogs as well, and each of the dog walking customers has paid for their canine to join Brittanie on her fundraising journey.

Brittanie said: "I have always been fascinated by animals, and since I was little it was all I wanted to learn about through school, college and even university. At college I did a national diploma in animal care and welfare at Brooksby Melton college in Leicestershire, then I got a degree in Wildlife Conservation at the University of Salford in Manchester.

"I always knew I would work with animals as a career as it's all I've ever wanted to do. I seem to be able to connect with animals, I care about how they feel, their health, happiness and welfare.

"I have always wanted to make their innocent lives better. And through dog walking I get to be a part of improving their lives every day. It's just always been a passion of mine to want to love and care for animals."

Brittanie will start her fundraising walk on Saturday June 15 at 8am from The Pilot Inn in Hardwicke. To donate to the fundraiser, please visit here.
