This is the moment that the two women accused of killing Kim Jong-un‘s half brother were escorted through the Malaysian airport where the crime took place.

Kim Jong-nam, the eldest son of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and, at one point was considered the heir apparent to his father, was murdered at Kuala Lumpur airport in February.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong are accused of rubbing VX, a nerve agent classified as a weapon of mass destruction by the United Nations, in Kim’s face.

A huge group, include the judge, defence and prosecution lawyers, and representatives from the women’s countries were taken through the airport by heavily armed police.

The accused were handcuffed and wearing bulletproof vests.

Azmi Ariffin, the high court judge, visited the check-in kiosk where the women allegedly smeared the agent on to Kim’s face on 13 February.

The group retraced Kim’s steps, and visited the medical centre where he sought assistance.

The trial has heard that the chemical agent was found on Kim’s face and clothing and on the women’s clothing. It was also found on Huong’s fingernail clippings.

The women have pleaded not guilty and have claimed they were tricked, believing they were taking part in a TV prank.

According to the AFP news agency, Aisyah burst into tears while Huong also appeared unwell during the visit.

Kim Jong-nam, who was in his mid-40s, was mostly based in Macau, where he was heading when he was killed.

South Korea’s spy agency has said the attack was part of plot by Kim Jong-un to kill his half brother, something that North Korea denies.

Kim Myung-yeon, a spokesperson for South Korea’s Liberty Korea Party party, described the killing as a “naked example of Kim Jong-un’s reign of terror”.

Malaysian authorities, which have not directly accused North Korea of involvement, initially named at least 10 people in connection to the case. So far have only two of them have been prosecuted.

If found guilty, the women will face the death penalty.
