Wrexham is the Game newsletter is a must read for fans - this is why you should subscribe

There's so much buzz around Wrexham AFC since they were taken over by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney that you're going to need some help making sense of it all and that's where Wrexham is the Game newsletter comes in.

Long-time pals Andy Gilpin and Tim Edwards who run the Fearless in Devotion podcast and fanzine have been following Wrexham AFC up and down the country for 30 years.

They're the writers behind Wrexham is the Game, a dedicated, quality source of information piped through to your inbox each week, free of ads but packed with informed opinion, analysis and even a little bit of fun. Yours every Wednesday it will give you the low-down you need to be a top red.

The Red Dragons have claimed two back to back promotions and are shouted on by sell out crowds with fans not only from the North Wales area – but hundreds jetting in from all over the world thanks to the success of Disney+ Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

Fearless in Devotion started life as a Twitter page on Christmas Day back in 2014 - a full seven years before the takeover - and has since blossomed to a thriving weekly podcast and occasional written fanzine.

Current Daily Star and former North Wales Daily Post deputy editor Andy said: "At the moment Wrexham is more than just a football club, it's a global phenomenon. The documentary has brought the gaze of the world on not only the town but North Wales as a whole.

"We've covered the club as journalists, but these days we can take a more wry view of the goings on at the Cae Ras.

"With this in mind we're here to give you an unabashed and unfiltered look at what's happening with Phil Parkinson's Dragons. Each week we'll review the news, analyse the goings on, give you exclusive little titbits and introduce you to all the characters on and off the pitch – all in our inimitable style.

"And let's be honest, you may need this. The club is changing rapidly each day and everything is scrutinised from Holywell to Hollywood.

"Whatever happens in the future – and it literally could be anything – we're here to help you make sense of it all."

We know you'll have questions .... here are the answers

We know fans will have questions about why we are doing this, how it will work, and what they can expect in return for their subscription. We’ve tried to answer those questions here, but if anyone has any more, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Q:Why should we have to pay when fans of other clubs don’t have to?

A : Journalism costs money, and it takes time to produce. In terms of how we make the money to cover the cost of it, some of that money comes from the sale of newspapers, but online, most of that money comes from what we call programmatic advertising - they are the ads that appear on pages that allow us not to charge people to view our websites.

We need to find a new way of sustaining that journalism. We know Wrexham fans want to read about their team and their club, but we know we couldn’t produce - and they wouldn’t even have time to read - the volume of content that would be needed if programmatic ads were to pay its way.

We think, given the options, fans would welcome a regular, high-quality product for a price that equates on a weekly basis to little more than the loose change they’d find down the back of the sofa.

Q:So there are no ads, then?

A: We know if we asked our readers what they most valued about our websites, the number of ads and the time the pages take to load up would certainly not be on the list. Substack is an independent platform. Because subscriptions rather than ads pay for the product, it means it’s a cleaner, faster reading experience. You don’t have to come looking for the content, you don’t have to wait until Facebook decides to put it in front of you - it comes to you, via email, as soon as it’s published. No ads, no pop-ups, no waiting around, just pure Wrexham AFC

Q:What kind of thing can we expect from Wrexham is the Game?

A: Fans want much more than match reports and analysis. It might be exclusive interviews, reflections on key matches from back in the day, profiles on legendary players, or a sizing up of the opposition before a big game. And you might want to meet the characters off and on the pitch.

Wrexham is a fans’ publication, and we want the content it includes to reflect what fans might be talking about in the pub before or after a game. We know fans value Andy and Tim's insight and opinions, and we want this to be a two-way conversation.

Q : How do I sign up?
