'Wuhan Jiayou': Shouts of Solidarity Ring Out Over Coronavirus-Stricken City

Wuhan residents staying indoors due to the threat of the coronavirus took to their windows to shout out messages of solidarity on the evening of January 27, footage uploaded to social media shows.

A refrain of “Wuhan, jiayou” can be heard in this video. “Jiayou” – literally “add oil” – is a Chinese phrase that can roughly be translated to “keep going” or “hang in there” and is commonly used to emphasize perseverance and determination.
