A new music festival celebrating “Black culture from around the world” is set to land in Clapham Common this summer.

Yam Carnival, which was due to make its inaugural appearance last year but got derailed due to Covid, will take place on Saturday August 28 — the latest event scheduled for what could turn out to be a huge bank holiday weekend in the capital.

Headlined by Nigerian star Davido, the festival will be spread across three stages and welcome the likes of Kehlani, Yemi Alade, Pa Salieu, Nao, Honey Dijon, Fatoumata Diawara and Princess Nokia.

Elsewhere, there will be sets from Darkoo, Ms Banks, Ari Lennox, Fally Ipupa, Femi Kuti, IAMDDB and more. The full line-up so far is below.

Organisers are also promising an an array of “African-influenced food trucks and chefs from around London”.

Yam Carnival is yet another addition to an already bustling festival calendar on the final weekend of August. All Points East, Field Day and Maiden Voyage will take place in London, while Creamfields, Reading and Leeds and Victorious are among the big-name festivals set to happen around the country. It still remains to be seen whether Notting Hill Carnival will return to west London that weekend, too.

How to get tickets to Yam Carnival

Tickets will go on sale from midday on Thursday April 1, with prices starting at £59.50. Head here for more information.
