Yarn bombers have scored again after coming up with a football-themed creation to celebrate England competing at the the Euros.

The anonymous yarn bombers who target the post box half-way down Rylands Lane in Wyke Regis have once again outdone themselves with their artistic skill.

In celebration of the Euro 2024 football tournament taking place in Germany, a fantastic knitted creation has appeared on top of the post box.

The artworks depict two players in home and away England kits stood on a pitch, both with their own football and in front of a St George's Cross flag.

On either side the creator has stuck on a laminated sheet of the UEFA Euro 2024 list of teams.

England remain top of their group after their first two matches, although there's disquiet about their performance so far.

They beat Serbia 1-0 in their first match and then proceeded to draw 1-1 with Denmark.

The team’s next match will take place against Slovenia on Tuesday, June 25, at 8pm.

Upon seeing the post box topper, one Weymouth resident said: “I love to see how creative people can be and I’m so glad that it’s become a trend to brighten up the post boxes in the area.

“There’s a few different people in and around Wyke that do yarn bombing and it really brightens my day seeing their wonderful creations.”

The yarn artist(s) previously created a topper to celebrate the RNLI’s 200 year anniversary which featured two lifeboat crew members stood alongside the Weymouth all-weather lifeboat, Ernest and Mabel – which has all been made with incredible attention to detail.

This was very well received by the team at Weymouth Lifeboat Station

Nick Critchell, a spokesperson for the Weymouth Lifeboat Station, said: "We absolutely loved seeing the post box topper created by someone in our local community.

"We are delighted that our supporters have gone to the effort of creating such a wonderful, and relevant display.”

Elsewhere in Wyke, a post box along Portland Road was recently targeted in celebration of D Day.

The design was created as a homage to the sacrifice made by thousands British and American soldiers who left from Weymouth and Portland, many never to return.
