Young people have been urged not to jump from Wallingford Bridge into the river after concerns from local community members.

Thames Valley Police South Oxon and Vale of White Horse has issued a river safety notice that has been shared by local schools.

Police said reports had been received from concerned members of the public who had seen young people jumping into the river.

A statement said: "Although we appreciate this can be fun for children we would actively discourage this type of behaviour for the safety of the individuals involved and others that may already be in the water.

"Rivers can be extremely unpredictable and dangerous and jumping into them from height can cause serious injuries or even death.

"We would strongly encourage all young people to be mindful of their behaviour and think about their safety."

Parents have been reminded to talk to their children about the risks involved and how to enjoy the warm weather safely.
