Horror as three cars run over badger in front of wildlife rescue team

Three cars ran over an adult badger in front of a wildlife rescue team who had stopped to help it.

Rescuers from the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service were returning from a previous call at around 10.20pm on Wednesday when they saw an adult badger lying in the centre of the A22 East Hoathly bypass.

Rescuers turned their ambulance around and parked on the northbound side of the road with hazards and amber flashing lines on.

Before making their way to the badger, the rescuers let three cars pass, with each one running over the badger.

A spokesman for the charity said:  "Not only was it a large adult badger that was quite visible, the ambulance had hazards and flashing amber lights on, two rescuers were stood on the side of the road and as each vehicle hit the badger it must have been obvious that they had hit something but they all just carried on.

"If you see a vehicle with orange beacons on please slow down and drive carefully, for your safety and for the safety of others including our wildlife."

Rescuers said the badger was most likely already dead however drivers should slow down if they see flashing lights and be vigilant when driving at night.
