We still don't know much about Zendaya's Spider-Man: Homecoming character Michelle.

We have, though, gathered that she's one of Peter Parker's schoolmates, and she will definitely be bringing the snark to the Sony/Marvel movie.

And her character will be avoiding the unlucky fate of other Spider-Man leading ladies like Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson... by keeping her distance from Tom Holland's hero.

"In this movie I'm not the love interest or the girlfriend or anything like that, so I don't really need to be saved," Zendaya told Digital Spy.

"If anything, I'm honestly just insulting Peter half the time, and then the other half saying some really cool stuff. It's an interesting character, and as she evolves and grows, I think we'll see what happens to her and if she ever does become friends with Peter and Ned [Jacob Batalon], and if she ever opens up a little bit and has human emotion."

The actress said that it was a welcome change to play Michelle, allowing her to leave her hair unstyled and avoid spending hours in the makeup artist's chair.

"It's nice," she said. "I like that she's weird, I like that she's different, and I think a lot of young people – especially young women – can relate to that. I think it's nice to see. It's refreshing."

Zendaya has repeatedly denied that she is a 'love interest', or that she is secretly playing Mary Jane in Jon Watts' movie.

Holland also revealed the advice he got from co-star Michael Keaton... which he had already worked out for himself.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 5 in the UK and July 7 in the US.
