Clinton Tops Obama In Gifts From Foreigners

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received gold jewellery worth $500,000 among other gifts from foreign leaders in her final year in the job.

Mrs Clinton outpaced even President Barack Obama when it came to gifts.

The most valuable given to Mr Obama's was a $16,500 (£11,000) gold-plated clock from the Saudi defence minister.

The $500,000 (£320,000) gift of jewellery came from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

The jewellery and clock were among a bounty of vases, watches, artwork and other items given to US officials in 2012.

Details were published by the State Department's Office of Protocol, which catalogues the gifts and releases an annual list.

Under law, most gifts must go to the National Archives or General Services Administration, unless recipients reimburse the US Treasury for them.
