River Tay Search For Teenage Boy Swept Away

Around 30 members of a rescue team have been searching for a teenage boy who was swept away as he waded through a river.

The 16-year-old was in the River Tay at Perth with two friends on Sunday night when he got into difficulty.

Police divers and a helicopter crew were involved in the hunt for the boy, who went missing at about 7.20pm.

The search is focused on the Woody Islands and North Muirton area where he disappeared.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 30 people are involved in the physical search of the river, starting from where the missing teenager was last seen in the North Muirton area and heading downstream.

"Searches will be undertaken along the river bank and around the islands and personnel will also be taking to boats to assist the river search.

"Next of kin are being kept fully informed of any developments."

Meanwhile, a search is continuing in Kilbirnie in North Ayrshire after a report a child had fallen into a burn, which is a small stream or brook.

A girl aged about 10 was spotted in a burn near Lynn Drive around 8.30pm on Sunday night.

A Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannett in Prestwick joined in the hunt.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area and a search of the burn goes on.

Police said they had received no reports of a missing child in the area but a spokeswoman told Sky News the operation was ongoing.
