Japan's Sakurajima volcano erupted at the Minamidake crater on February 14, propelling rocks and creating a towering smoke plume three miles high. This marks the first eruption since 2020, prompting a level-three volcanic activity alert and warnings for residents to stay clear. The Kagoshima Meteorological Office and Japan Meteorological Agency advise precautions in Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima prefectures due to anticipated ashfall.
