Video: Elephant runs wild at Indian festival

A usually tame elephant caused chaos at a festival in India after it broke free from its shackles.

Two dozen people were reportedly injured after the drama unfolded during the annual Hindu procession in Kerala state, in the south of the country.

Footage from the procession shows the richly-decorated elephant, named Kalidasan, suddenly going berserk before a shocked crowd.

Frightened spectators are seen scrambling during the chaos - fleeing in panic in all directions.

It took 15 minutes for keepers to eventually bring the animal under control, tying ropes around its legs.

Elephants are the main attraction of the festival called Thrissur Pooram, which takes place in mid-April to mid-May.
