A stretch of the A41 near Watford is set to close for works over more than three weeks to improve the road surface.

Hertfordshire County Council will shut the southbound carriageway between Two Waters Way slip road, Hemel Hempstead, and the M25 junction 20 roundabout at night in July and August.

The closure will last from 9pm to 5am between July 15 and August 8.

A council spokesperson said: “We're resurfacing the road for the comfort and safety of all road users and stabilising the road's foundation to reduce future maintenance.

“Over time, the road's surface has become worn due to the high volume of traffic.”

The work will include renewing the old road surface, ground stabilisation, cleaning drains, and reinstating road markings and studs.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed access through the closure during the working hours, which are being carried out at night “in order to create a safe environment for the workforce and members of the public alike”.
