Six pigs were killed after a lorry overturned on the A143 and spilled oil onto the road.

Emergency services were called to the A143 at the A140 roundabout, in Stuston near Diss, at about 10.50am on Wednesday to reports of a lorry having overturned on the road.

A Suffolk police spokesman confirmed the lorry crashed into a lamppost, which in turn knocked it, before overturning.

There was then an oil spill from the lorry which happened due to the impact of the crash, Suffolk police said.

Police found that six pigs died in the crash and many others were injured.

The driver of the lorry was assessed by paramedics, but no major injuries were reported.

A fire crew from Carrow station in Norfolk was in attendance to help clear the scene.
