Airdrie have signed goalkeeper Murray Johnson on a season-long loan from Premiership side Hibernian.

Johnston, 19, was previously at Airdrie on a series of loan deals from the Edinburgh giants in season 2022-23.

The keeper made his senior debut for Airdrie, aged just 17, and has represented Scotland at under-16, 19 and 21 level.

Johnson was on loan at Queen of the South last season, but was recalled due to an injury crisis, and comes in after last season’s custodian, Josh Rae, signed for Premiership side St Johnstone.

He told Airdrie’s website: “I’m very excited. I really enjoyed my time here, I loved the club, and loved working for the manager, so I’m just delighted to be back.

“I knew the way Airdrie played from my time here, but watching them last season I was very impressed. I just want to be a part of that.

“It’s a club that’s close to my heart – I made my professional debut here, so I want to help the team out as much as I can.

“I think it’s going to be a really exciting season.”

Boss Rhys McCabe said: “Muzz had a successful period here, albeit a short-lived one, and did really well.

“He’s at a stage of his career where he wants to play. He’s hungry, he’s got the bit between his teeth, and he’s raring to go, so we’re delighted to get him in.”
