Alan Carr gave up alcohol for six months to support addict husband
Alan Carr has told how he gave up drinking for six months to support his husband, calling it "the worst f***ing Christmas I've ever had".
The 45-year-old comedian and Chatty Man star – who has previously opened up about husband Paul Drayton's struggles with addiction – revealed that his mother offered Drayton a drink over the holidays, thinking one was okay.
Carr told an audience in Leeds on his current National Trinket tour about his dabble with sobriety, admitting: "It was the worst f***ing Christmas I've ever had.

"And my mother didn't help by offering him a Bailey's and going, 'It's only Bailey's – what's the worst that can happen?!'"
The chatshow host said that by not drinking he ended up being the designated driver for his family when he visited them for the holidays in Northampton.
He joked: "I walked into a pub and the DJ clocked me and shouted over the mic, 'Alan Carr, everyone, Northampton's favourite son!' I told him I wasn't even my father's favourite son!"
Earlier this year Carr revealed that husband Drayton “fell off the wagon” during lockdown.
He told his comedy audience: "Paul is getting the help he needs."
Carr previously said: “While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again. When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.
“We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better, which is our number one priority right now.”

The comedian has spoken of Drayton’s previous issues with alcohol before, and once shared that he went teetotal to support his husband after he went to rehab.
