Aldi customers are being urged to return bags of frozen vegetables they have bought at Aldi after a customer found half a rat inside one.

Some 38,000 bags of Four Seasons Mixed Vegetables have been taken off the shelves, while the supermarket giant issued a recall for the bags.

Grandmother Pat Bateman said she felt “physically sick” after finding the mutilated rodent inside her bag of veggies while feeding her two-year-old granddaughter some lunch.

The 60-year-old told The Sun: “We had eaten almost all of the bag before we saw it – and what’s even worse – I fed it to my youngest granddaughter.

“It’s a wonder none of us ended up physically ill.”

Mrs Bateman returned the tainted bag to her local Aldi in Liskeard, Cornwall, where the manager offered her an apology and £30 off her next shop.

However, she felt her complaint was not taken seriously enough and Mrs Bateman has now been offered £500 in compensation after contacting head office.

The Sun reports that an internal Aldi report detailed three complaints about “pieces of small rodent” being found in the frozen veg bag, that was removed from sale on 5 January.

Aldi said in a statement: “Following Mrs Bateman’s complaint, we removed this product from sale to prevent any further issues.

“We have suspended all orders from this production site whilst we investigate this matter.”
