Man stabbed on Oxford Street while fighting off moped mugger trying to steal his phone

A man has been taken to hospital after he was stabbed on London’s busiest shopping street by a mugger who was riding a moped.

The 22-year-old victim was on Oxford Street at around 9.23pm on Sunday night when he was stabbed by an armed assailant.

He was walking with his friend when his mobile phone was snatched out of his hand by a pillion passenger on a moped, according to police.

The victim chased after the moped and managed to grab the pillion passenger and during the altercation, the victim was stabbed.

Both the pillion passenger and the driver made off on the moped without the mobile phone in the direction of Great Portland Street.

“As I got closer one guy jumped on the back of a moped and drove off.

He added: “Turns out they stole a guys phone and because he tried to resist, they stabbed him for it.”

The victim is now in hospital recovering from his injuries, which are not said to be life-threatening.

Detectives are now investigating and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to contact police.

No arrests have so far been made.
