Yahoo News Alexandra Burke confirms engagement and reveals heartbreaking reason why she kept it a secret
Alexandra Burke has finally taken to social media to confirm that she is engaged to her long-term boyfriend Joshua Ginnelly.
There has been speculation that Joshua had proposed for weeks, however, Alexandra has only just broken her silence – revealing the heartbreaking reason why she decided to keep schtum in a poignant Instagram post.

Posting a photo of herself kissing Joshua, with ‘I said yes!’ written on the palm of her hand, the singer revealed that Joshua had popped the question in Paris on 18 December.
She added: “I said YES! Smiling as I type this because it was the best day ever in Paris and so unexpected. My soul mate and my love asked me something that I could only have dreamt of.
“Being in love is one of the most magical feelings life has to offer.
“So grateful for this amazing man in my life who has supported my family and I through so much.”

Opening up, the former X Factor winner confessed that she had kept the exciting news to herself as she is still grieving the loss of her mother, Melissa Bell, who died of kidney failure on 28 August.
Alexandra continued: “We decided to keep this between us for a while to enjoy this special moment and that’s why we haven’t said anything…
“Something so amazing honestly felt so overwhelming because there was only one person I wanted to call when it happened.
“I know she is smiling and very happy for us both – because little did I know she knew about it.”

She rounded off the post with: “Josh is someone who makes me so happy and I’ve never felt this kind of love before.
“Here’s to an amazing future that’s filled with love, joy and so much happiness.
“I love you Joshua Ginnelly. I can’t wait to see what our future brings and what God provides for us”.
The star was quickly inundated with well-wishes from her fans, who have supported Alexandra through a difficult few months following the loss of her mum and media scrutiny during her recent Strictly Come Dancing appearance.

Alexandra was forced to release a statement after a series of “fake” negative stories were written about her, with the star – as well as show bosses and her fellow contestants – denying that there was any truth to the scandals.
Despite the bad press, Alexandra went on to secure a spot in the Strictly final alongside Debbie McGee and eventual winner Joe McFadden.
