George Clooney’s wife, Amal Clooney, has given birth to twins in a London hospital, a spokesperson has confirmed.
The Clooney twins, a boy and a girl, are called Ella and Alexander and mother and babies are “doing fine”.
‘This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives.
‘Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine,’ her team said in a statement.
They also joked: ‘George is sedated and should recover in a few days.’
News of the human rights lawyer’s pregnancy was announced in February. The couple revealed they were having twins in June and they are expected to raise their children in the UK.
Amal, 39, married George, 56, in 2014, in an opulent ceremony in Venice.
In the actor’s first interview after news of the pregnancy was announced, George said: ‘We are really happy and really excited. It’s going to be an adventure. We’ve sort of embraced it all with arms wide open.’
George previously revealed he and Amal would reduce their workload once the twins arrived.
The couple have spent their relationship travelling to dangerous parts of the world for humanitarian causes but will stop visiting volatile regions now they are parents.
‘We decided to be much more responsible, to avoid the danger. I will not go to South Sudan anymore and in the Congo, Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she will avoid places where she knows she is not welcome.
‘Before, I did not care, I would even say that there was a pretty exciting side to going where no reporter had ever been. We have the chance to live between three countries: Italy, America and England,’ he said.
Meanwhile, their friends have rushed to congratulate them on their happy news.
