American social media star Kalani Smith – known as Kalani Ghost hunter – is returning to his favourite Glasgow restaurant where he is inviting you to join him for dinner.

An Evening With Kalani Ghost Hunter will take place at The Malletsheugh in Newton Mearns and will see around 100 foodie fans enjoy a three-course meal. The will also have the chance to feature in Kalani’s content filmed on the night, all included in the £45 ticket.

Kalani fell in love with the iconic Indian restaurant just outside Glasgow on his debut visit earlier this year making it the clear choice to invite fans to for a meal with him.

He said: “The idea behind an evening with Kalani is to allow people to join me for a meal and to meet and hang out.

“It will be a casual thing where people meet me, hear some stories and have some laughs - and try the food I really loved at a restaurant that I recommend very, very highly.

“It’s all about connecting with my audience and inviting them to be a part of a live food review in a really new and interesting way, I don’t think anyone has ever done what we have planned for the event but that’s a surprise for now.

“I chose The Malletsheugh for the first event because I love the family feel – the Birk family who own and run it have had three generations making amazing Indian food in Glasgow.

“Bobby who runs the front of house operation is a great guy, we really connected, and his passion for what he and his family do is really inspiring.

“I am passionate about supporting local family businesses but most importantly, dude, the food…

“I really enjoyed my food there, it was one of the best meals I had in all of the UK, and one that I still think about here in the US - wanting to go back and eat at The Malletsheugh. I talk about it all the time.

“The family vibe and overall aesthetic of the place is really appealing.

“That is partly why I wanted to have my event there so people get to experience that as well as meeting me and eating good food.”

Kalani visited the restaurant in April and was blown away by the honey chicken and the butter chicken curry. His video review was a highlight of his trip and quickly went with over 1million views in six days.

The restaurant has been busy since, with one woman recently travelling up from Rugby just to go eat there after seeing Kalani’s video.

He added: “The fact that we have people travelling all the way from Southern England to get there is remarkable.

“It is a pilgrimage, it is a restaurant that is definitely worth the travel. I think anyone who makes that trip will be able to understand that.

“My dad wants to come over with me to eat there – that’s how much I talk about the meal I had.

“It’s not just the food, there’s something about the place, the family, the service, the history. It’s special.”

Tickets are priced at £45 per person and include a three-course meal from the set menu for the evening, plus the Kalani experience.

He will share stories from his travels, ghost hunts and food reviews around the world and fans can ask questions as well as take selfies and more, with special edition merch available.

Kalani will film one of his famous reviews on the night – and audience members have the chance to take part in a new, exciting and unique way.

He said: "The event is going to be kind of casual but we are going to have some structure to it – it will for sure be an event to remember.

“I’ll be trying some new dishes as well as revisiting my old favourites there.

“The big thing is I want to turn into a live event where people in the room get to be part of the content that I’m creating that night – let’s leave it at that for now.

“No-one has to do anything they don’t want to but we have an exciting idea for people who want to get involved in content to do so.

“Hopefully it will be one of many live food reviews that I do in the UK where people get to come out and meet me and be part of the things I’m doing going forward.

“To my knowledge something like this hasn’t been done before.

“I wanted to be someone that brought this in as this is what I’m known for these food reviews and authentic and real opinions.”

Malletsheugh owner Pav Birk said: “We are thrilled to welcome Kalani and his lovely wife Sav back to our family restaurant and indeed back into the family – things were good before but his visit took us viral, it was crazy.

“He got in touch to ask if we would like to host his first ever event – he said we were his only choice – and of course we jumped at it.

“We have put together a menu showcasing some of the other things we think he and the diners may enjoy, as well as the things he loved so much first time.

“Making people happy with great food, service and memories means everything to us so the fact a global influencer is coming all the way back from the USA to stage his first event anywhere, at our restaurant, is massive.

“I don’t know if you can get a stronger endorsement than that really.”

Tickets are available at Eventbrite with only 100 available for the event at 7.30pm on Monday July 22.

Kalani said: “The curry is phenomenal. I had to make sure the meal I had first time was on the menu for the event as it was so good.

“I think the honey chicken and the sticky toffee pudding were probably my favourite things.

“Obviously really good curry, the garlic naan,. I really enjoyed my appetisers and the butter chicken was heavenly. That’s a dish I talk about ALL the time.

“Yeah I changed my mind, that butter chicken was probably my number one thing.”
