Anthony Gordon has made no secret of the fact he would love to see England team-mate Marc Guehi join him at Newcastle United in the future.

The Crystal Palace star was heavily linked with a move to St James' Park last summer as the Magpies plotted a potential spending spree at the heart of Eddie Howe's defence. Guehi ultimately stayed at Selhurst Park where his stock has continued to rise.

Guehi enjoyed a solid start to his Euro 2024 campaign with England in their tournament opener last week, while he has also clearly impressed Gordon during their time together too both at senior and youth level.

The Newcastle star told talkSPORT: “He is top. He’s such a good player. I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he is such a lovely guy and he deserves what is coming to him.

“I thought he was unbelievable in that game, considering his height compared to the strikers they had on. He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads, and his main strength is his composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder, so him and Stones at the back is a great partnership.

“I haven’t seen the Newcastle links but it goes without saying I would love him to come, as I think he’s a top, top player and he would make us a better team.”

Newcastle have already strengthened their backline with the arrival of Lloyd Kelly but after missing out on fellow free agent Tosin Adarabioyo, there could be scope for another central defensive asset to arrive on Tyneside before the window is out.
