Antony Cotton rushed to hospital after Dancing on Ice rehearsal injury

Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton was taken to hospital after an accident preparing for this weekend’s live show of Dancing on Ice.

Antony, 42, apparently fell backwards onto the ice and cracked a number of ribs. The injury saw him and professional dance partner Brandee Malto, 37, go tumbling to the icy floor, but it was the Corrie star that sustained the injuries.

He was taken to The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle where he is being treated. It’s raised doubt whether he’ll even be able to compete in this weekend’s show for which he was practicing for. The actor said he’d ‘do his best’ to make it to this Sunday’s episode.

Releasing a statement on Wednesday, Antony revealed the extent of the accident and confirmed his dance partner was unhurt in the mishap.

‘On Wednesday, Brandee and I were training for this week’s show when we lost our balance and both fell backwards onto the ice.

‘Luckily, Brandee was uninjured but I was taken to hospital where I discovered I had fractured a couple of ribs, front and back.

‘But the show must go on and as such, we are going to do our best to continue in the Dancing on Ice competition this Sunday. Hopefully the painkillers and sequins will see us through.’

A spokesperson for the show said: ‘Antony fell on the ice during training and as a precaution was taken to a nearby hospital. He has since been released and is now resting ahead of the live show this weekend.’

It’s the second accident to plague this year’s show, after Max Evans’ dance partner Ale Izquierdo was taken to hospital after he dropped her on the ice head first.

This year’s series features the likes of Lemar Obika, Cheryl Baker, Kem Cetinay, Brooke Vincent, and Alex Beresford.

Dancing on Ice is on this Sunday, on ITV 1, at 6pm.
