‘He was supposed to pick the girls up in the morning to have them for the full week because it was school holidays. I got the phone call from his sister saying that he had taken his own life,’ she recalled.

‘It’s funny, when you hear news like that your world just stops. My initial thoughts were, the three girls were still asleep, and I thought, “How am I going to tell them?” It’s just something you never think you’ll have to deal with.’

Jessica admitted that she initially told her daughters that their father wouldn’t be picking them up because he had hit his head, but decided to tell them the truth as they went for a walk.

Jessica Cunningham has spoken out for the first time since the death of Alistair Eccles, her former partner and the father of her three children.

‘I said he had a poorly mind and sometimes if you don’t go to the doctors with a poorly mind, you can die,’ she said.

‘I was in shock, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do [but] I was conscious not to lie to my children because that would ruin our relationship.’

Jessica added: ‘I’ve never heard them cry the way they cried, it was heartbreaking.’

The former Celebrity Big Brother star also revealed that she decided to bring the girls to their dad’s funeral, saying that one of the girls pressed her ear up against the coffin as she thought her dad would speak to her.

However, Jessica admitted that she did not take them to the cremation, instead tying notes written to Alistair to balloons and setting them free.
