Armed cops swoop on Glasgow street after reports of man with weapon

Armed cops have swooped on a road in the east end of Glasgow this morning following reports of a man in possession of a weapon.

Specialist units descended on Duke Street in Dennistoun at around 9am on Tuesday, after a disturbance in the Bathgate Street area.

A police helicopter is also reported to be hovering above the area near to shops.

One concerned eye-witness said they spotted at least 16 armed officers "walking down" the main street , Glasgow Live reports.

Footage has emerged showing three marked police vehicles parked on Duke Street with armed response police gathered nearby.

Police say enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a disturbance and man believed to be in possession of a weapon in the Bathgate Street area of Glasgow around 8.30am on Tuesday, 2 July, 2024.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
