Armed police close in on Dennistoun street after man in 'possession of weapon'

Armed police descended on a busy main road in the east of Glasgow this morning following a 'disturbance'.

Officers were seen on Duke Street in Dennistoun after reports of an incident which involved a man who was said to be in possession of a weapon at around 8.30am this morning, July 2.

A concerned eye-witness said at least 16 armed officers could be seen in the area as a helicopter also hovered above.

The type of weapon in question is currently unknown.

Police have confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a disturbance and man believed to be in possession of a weapon in the Bathgate Street area of Glasgow around 8.30am on Tuesday, 2 July, 2024.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
